It all started with a few emails. I mean, how could Helen not fall for Brandon’s Microsoft Paint edited picture of a scared cat’s body with her face on it that says, “Do you want karate?” Mind you, he saved every single email they have ever written each other going back some four years now.

Helen and Brandon are like peas in a pod in a way that makes you think that they were the inspiration for that actual saying. With family and friends from opposite ends of country and from the other side of the world flying into the Windy City for their big event, Helen and Brandon decided to split their rehearsal, ceremony, and reception into three different days, which ultimately led to a unique, easy-going wedding.

Watching Brandon wait on the lakefront like he was posing for GQ in his aviator sunglasses, you would never have known he had fought a mini-disaster the night before when he realized that his shoes were being held hostage in the very locked and closed mailroom at work. Nothing an emergency trip to Target couldn’t fix. But Brandon’s cool exterior vanished the moment he saw Helen make her way to him, as he tried to play off the tears as raindrops from the gray clouds overhead. They exchanged vows as only someone who’s the jam to their peanut butter sandwich could, when it began to sprinkle. Now we may not be the most superstitious people in the world, but we think rain on your wedding day is good luck! Before we knew it, we were all being whisked away in their wedding trolley – yes, trolley… it’s a Chicago thing – and the new couple enjoyed their first meal with their immediate family and closest friends.

The next day, Helen and Brandon danced the night away with all their friends and family at Revolution Brewing Co., complete with brewery tour, Chicago themed cupcakes, and of course, beer. Orange and yellow flowers brightened up the mahogany walls perfectly in Helen’s DIY tinted mason jars, which we thought were super cute, while guests goofed off with handmade props in our photo booth area. By the end of the night, Nana and Pop-Pop found their way into our hearts. Capturing Helen and Brandon’s wedding was a privilege. Not only did they allow us to share in their love, but we’ve also gained two new friends. We can’t thank you both enough for your humor, levity, and friendship.

As always, keep it classy.
