{"id":1322,"date":"2011-11-09T02:07:52","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T02:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tanyavelazquez.com\/?p=1322"},"modified":"2015-01-27T05:35:35","modified_gmt":"2015-01-27T05:35:35","slug":"chess-on-michigan-ave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tanyavelazquez.com\/uncategorized\/chess-on-michigan-ave\/","title":{"rendered":"Chess On Michigan Ave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ve struggled to photograph this chess\/checkers stand since I arrived in Chicago. \u00a0I&#8217;ve passed by this stand several times and each time I think, &#8220;To take a picture or not to take a picture?&#8221; \u00a0Every picture I had taken felt as if it had been taken before, but I wanted to do this unique stand justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This man sets up shop almost everyday with his chess and checkers boards ready for complete\u00a0strangers\u00a0to go head to head, for a low-low fee, of course! He props up his windmills and boombox whether it&#8217;s 40 or 90 degrees out. \u00a0When you see the people playing on this crazy busy street that is Michigan Avenue, they&#8217;re in their own world. \u00a0They don&#8217;t notice me or anyone else photographing them.\u00a0\u00a0I think I was finally able to portray what it must feel like to play.
